Applications still being accepted for Bonanza Days events

Posted

Organizers of Bonanza Days, Brewster's annual town celebration, are still looking for people who want to race apple bins, march in the parade, and generally participate in events around town. Bonanza Days will be Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and 15.

Most of the activity will be on Main Street; that's where the vendors will be, along with the demonstrations by the Washington Prospectors and Mining Association (down by the Cashmere Valley Mortgage office) and the V-8 Hot Saws (at the opposite end of the street, next to the American Legion). The "Hot Saws" are chain saws souped up with the addition of a V-8 engine. The annual antique small engine and tractor show, sponsored by Ron Anderson, will be at the Brewster Drug Annex building on the corner of 5th and Main streets.

The parade will line up at the American Legion; people who want to participate can contact organizer Toni Tretwold in Brewster. The parade starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14. The apple bin races will follow, at about noon; people who want to enter can contact organizer Janet Jordan. Motorcycle riders are being invited to compete in games to test their skills beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Kick Start Saloon, at the intersection of Bridge and Main streets. People who want more information can contact organizers Roy and Terry McHugo.

There's a lot more going on-a dunk tank sponsored by the Brewster Police Department's DARE program on Saturday, a Saturday morning pancake feed at the Brewster Senior Center, a performance by the vocal trio Mood Swings on Saturday afternoon, a carnival all weekend long at the vacant lot next to McDonald's on Highway 97. There will be a dance at the Brewster American Legion Hall beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday, featuring Terry Lee Hardesty and the Eagle River Band. (The dance is made possible partly through the generosity of local businesses, including Brewster Marketplace, Brewster Drug and True Value Hardware, Webster Furniture and Erlandsen and Associates.)

The Legion is sponsoring a Father's Day "Bonanza" breakfast on Sunday, June 15 beginning at 8 a.m.

Rebecca Meadows, who's on the organizing committee, said committee chair Sue White has put in a lot of hard work on Bonanza Days 2008, and there wouldn't be as much going on without her.
