BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport High School's near-three dozen FFA students are knee-deep in projects and will devote FFA Week "Transforming" their two main purposes into action: Upcoming sub-district and district leadership competitions and the chapter's annual April spring plant and flower sale.

Ag instructor, Adam Corum has 32 students in this program this year and gives them plenty to do. Bridgeport school recently completed a new Ag shop in 2012 to replace the original put up in the mid-1950's and that needed addition has proved a boon for ag activities.

The chapters supply of plant seeds arrived late last December and students have had their hands full with starts for the variety of plants and floral selections they sell every spring.

"We have requests from our customers to offer more vegetables this year," Corum said, "and we're adding more hanging baskets."

Corum expects to field two parliamentary debate teams for FFA competition coming up. District 7, which includes the Bridgeport chapter and extends from the Canadian border to Wenatchee "is one of the most competitive in the state," Corum said.

He should know.

Corum is a Tonasket alumnus and spent four years in the school's FFA program, experience that has served him well since in both practical knowledge and an appreciation of the competitiveness of another District 7 program.

Corum is in his eighth year as Bridgeport's FFA advisor and had to start fresh with one student in the program following the departure of his predecessor.

Corum's dedication and learning-by-doing approach has paid dividends in the Bridgeport team's qualification to compete at state in Parliamentary Procedure in 2015.

Bridgeport FFA fundraising activities include barbecue concessions at the City of Bridgeport's annual Bridgeport Daze celebration and at the school's fall Homecoming football game.
