Cookies back out in Bridgeport today

Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce president Charlene Knox has been making cookies periodically and giving them away, but with a catch; the cookies are placed in a Bridgeport business that's a Chamber member. It's a way to get residents into the businesses for a look around, Knox said. It's a Thursday thing and today "the cookies are on the loose again," Knox said, hiding out at CJ's Auto Supply, Carol's Style Stop, the Bridgeport NCNB branch or Yaretzi Dollar Store. Residents are invited to find the cookies and look around the participating businesses.

No FBLA silent auction for 2008

Normally December is right about the time of year that the Bridgeport Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter holds its fund raising silent auction, and normally this is when FBLA members go out to solicit donations from businesses. But FBLA members are doing other things this year, said advisor Nancy Fischer, so they're foregoing the silent auction for 2008. As a result, FBLA members are not going around to businesses for donations, Fischer said. Bridgeport and Quad City area business owners have always been very supportive of the auction, Fischer said, and she expressed the club's gratitude.
