30-hour Famine

Legion pool tourney

American Legion Post 97 hosts its weekly pool tournament each Sunday at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $5. At the April 14 tournament, eight players competed. Shawn Kelly won first place, Dana Larson won second place and Larry Boyd won third place.

Help a local cancer patient

The family of Brittan Schmidt, who has a rare form of brain cancer, has established a fund to help pay for medical expenses as he undergoes treatment. Donations can be dropped off at Sterling Bank and Wells Fargo Bank in Brewster.

he city of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport School District is partnering with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office to present a Block Watch program for the residents of Bridgeport.

Block Watch is a crime prevention strategy that joins neighborhoods with law enforcement to reduce crime and the fear of crime through mutual communication and cooperation.

The presentation will be held at the Bridgeport High School Commons on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend and find out more about how to make Bridgeport a safer and more secure community.

PATEROS

Birthday celebration

The city of Pateros will celebrate its 100th birthday at 5 p.m., May 21 in Memorial Park in Pateros.

The celebration is intended for local residents and will include a birthday cake. Organizers ask attendees to bring a favorite potluck dish to share with neighbors. A group photo will be taken at 6 p.m. and the Pateros Jr./Sr. High School Concert band will begin their concert in the part at 6:30 p.m.

Souvenir history book

Full-color, hard-back Pateros 100th year birthday souvenir books are available for purchase at Pateros City Hall.

Men's Golf

Wildfire protection plan meeting

A Douglas County Community Wildfire Protection Plan meeting will be held April 30 at 6 p.m. at the Mansfield Senior Center.

Douglas County is developing a Community Wildfire Protection Plan through a collaboration of local experts. Public input is being sought to better understand the vulnerability of County residents, businesses, and resources to wildfire.

The Mansfield Senior Center is located at the Pioneer Club on Main Street in Mansfield. Their phone number is 509-683-1091.

A second meeting will be held May 1 at 6 p.m. at the Douglas County PUD building.

Non profit practices seminar

The Nonprofit Practices Institute will host its Fifth Annual Summit in Chelan, May 13. The day-long conference is aimed at providing resources and education for nonprofit leaders.

Topics at this year's summit include: employment and nonprofit law; planning for sustainability; endowments; performance measurement; storytelling; streamlining through the cloud; inspired leadership; trusts and charitable giving; and marketing.

The summit runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is $15 and includes lunch. Online registration required at www.cfncw.org.

OCSRA scholarship

Okanogan County residents who are at least a college junior and are working toward an initial certificate in an educational field may apply now for a scholarship offered by the Okanogan County School Retirees Association. The scholarship amount will be no less than $600. Deadline for completed application form is May 1.
