BREWSTER

BACS Christmas Program

Brewster Adventist Christian School and homeschooling families present "One Starry Night in Bethlehem," a collection of plays about the nativity story and modern life, written by Dr. Eric Haeger, Victoria Smith, Kisa McClosky and Elena Harris. The presentation includes a variety of music, including a community choir singing "All is Well." It begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at the BACS Gymnasium on Valley Road. Light refreshments to follow.

Legion pool tourney

American Legion Post 97 hosts its weekly pool tournament each Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $5. There were six players at the Dec. 9 tournament. Dennis Cosens won first place, Brandon Caswell won second and Pete Downing took third.

Turkey shoot-out

The American Legion will hold its annual turkey shoot-out at 2 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 16. The entry fee is $10 and at least five places are guaranteed.

Community carolers

There will be community Christmas caroling at 4 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 16. We will leave from the Log Church Glessner annex and will visit shut-ins as well as Harmony House.

Carol-Sing at the church

Everyone is welcome to join the annual Christmas Carol-Sing and Bonfire at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Hope Lutheran Church, 1520 Sunset Dr. From 7th Avenue, turn west at the high school. The church driveway is on the right, about 0.5 miles down the road.

Christmas on the Air

A Christmas cantata and play will be presented by the adult and children's choir at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 at the New Testament Baptist Church, 402 Hanson Ave.

SOS

Hurry on over to the Community Log Church every Wednesday for Bible stories, songs, snacks, games and much more fun! This opportunity is open to kids in kindergarten through sixth grades after school, from 3:15 to 5 p.m. The church is located at 209 S. 4th St.

HOSTS

The Brewster Elementary School HOSTS program is looking for mentors to work with students in reading. HOSTS is an acronym for "Help One Student To Succeed." Kids work one-on-one with a mentor for 45 minutes from Tuesday through Friday. It is a very rewarding program to see the growth in the kids, but the main thing about our program is the lifelong bond that is made between a student and the mentor. Reading with Santa

Come listen to Santa Claus tell stories from 2 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 15 at Nell's Cafe.

Eagles Christmas celebration

The Quad City Eagles will hold its Christmas gift exchange on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the Eagles Lodge, 1030 Columbia Ave. The social hour kicks off at 5 p.m., the gift exchange will be done at 6 p.m. and finger foods will be served. Everyone can bring a snack and gift costing no more than $10. Women buy for women and men buy for men if they want to. Good time, good fun, hope to see you all here. Merry Christmas to all!

Help a local cancer patient

The family of Brittan Schmidt, who has a rare form of brain cancer, has established a fund to help pay for medical expenses as he undergoes treatment. Donations can be dropped off at Sterling Bank and Wells Fargo Bank in Brewster.

Developmental screening

Bridgeport School District Special Services Program provides free developmental screening for all students residing in the district age 3-21. If you suspect your child has a disability please contact Raelynn or Mayra at 686-5656 to schedule a screening.

PATEROS

Cookies for music

We are selling cookies by the pound again to raise money for the Pateros music program at the concert, to be held at 6 p.m. this Thursday, Dec. 13. If you are interested in helping, please call Tracy at 509-449-0596.

Community Church happenings

The Children's Christmas Program will be held at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, Dec. 16. A Candlelight Christmas Eve Service will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 24.

Library raffle

The Pateros Friends of the Library are holding a raffle - $1 per ticket - as a fundraiser for the library. You could win one of the following: an oil painting by Johnye Cruse, painted saws by Jan Darlington, a metal sculpture of a billygoat by Steve Love, a fly fishing set, two classic car models, two gift baskets, two handmade purses and more. Raffle winners will be drawn at the library at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Irrigation District meeting

Pateros Irrigation District is having their quarterly meeting at AgriMacs office at 7 a.m. on Dec. 19.

Advantage Basketball Camps
