BREWSTER

Red and White Night

BearBackers will host Red and White Night this Friday for the boys' and girls' varsity and junior varsity basketball games as a show of support for the athletes, coaches and students. The community is invited to attend and wear as much red and white as possible. The JV games will begin at 4:30 p.m. Boys' varsity will begin at 6 p.m. and the evening will culminate with a rematch of the girls' Brewster-Reardan state championship at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available at the door. Prizes and free T-shirts will be awarded throughout the evening.

Children's shopping

The Brewster Senior Center is sponsoring a Children's Christmas Shopping Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 8. Children can shop for their family and have their purchased gift-wrapped and ready to hide away until Dec. 25. Parents can also take pictures of their kids on Santa's lap.

Holiday bazaar

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 97 will hold a Christmas bazaar at the Legion building in Brewster on Dec. 7 and 8. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch will be available. Anyone wishing to have a table please call Pat Pittman at 449-2399. Money earned will go to helping our local veterans in nursing homes. Please come and enjoy all the different goodies. There will be different vendors both days.

School concert

The fifth/sixth grade choir and fifth through high school bands will perform their annual holiday concert at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 at the Brewster High School gymnasium.

Adventist Christmas concert

Experienced singers are invited to join a community choir to perform seven Christmas songs on Thursday, Dec. 13 as part of "One Starry Night in Bethlehem," a staged Christmas program about the nativity featuring screenplay written by Dr. Eric Haeger. Minimal rehearsal commitment. First rehearsals are at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday and Friday at the Brewster Adventist Church, 17 Hospital Way NE. Call Michelle Haeger if interested for the music and listening CD at 509-449-0423. The Christmas program will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Legion pool tourney

American Legion Post 97 hosts its weekly pool tournament each Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $5. There were 10 players at the Dec. 2 tournament. Tony Cleveland won first place, Gary Ives won second and Brandon Caswell took third.

Turkey shoot-out

The Legion will hold its annual turkey shoot-out on Sunday, Dec. 16. The entry fee is $10 and there will be at least five places.

Christmas caroling

Everyone is welcome to join the annual Christmas Carol-Sing and Bonfire at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Hope Lutheran Church, 1520 Sunset Dr. From 7th Avenue, turn west at the high school.

Reading with Santa

Come listen to Santa Claus tell stories from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Nell's Cafe.

Book fair

Bridgeport Elementary School will hold a Scholastic Book Fair Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Thursday, Dec. 13. It will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the elementary library, just before the school concerts, so come early and enjoy some fun and educational shopping! This year's theme is "All-Star Book Fair: Every Reader Is a Star!"

Help a local cancer patient

The family of Brittan Schmidt, who has a rare form of brain cancer, has established a fund to help pay for medical expenses as he undergoes treatment. Donations can be dropped off at Sterling Bank and Wells Fargo Bank in Brewster.

Special church speaker

Internationally known Nashville recording artist and speaker Linda Lanier will come to Mansfield for a special service at 11 a.m. this Sunday, Dec. 9 at the United Protestant Church, 132 W. 2nd St. Lanier, through her near death trials, brings an encouraging message to all those present. Christmas in Pateros

Santa Claus is coming to town! Santa and Mrs. Claus will come to Pateros Memorial Park on Monday, Dec. 10. They will come in on a decorated fire truck and need lots of help lighting the park and eating the homemade chili and cookies. From 5:30 to about 7 p.m. If you would like to donate cookies, please bring them to city hall any time.

REGIONAL

PUD budget workshop

The Okanogan County Public Utility District commissioners will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. next Tuesday, Dec. 11 to review the proposed 2013 budget. The meeting will be held at the PUD Auditorium, 1331 2nd Ave. N in Okanogan.

Advantage Basketball Camps

Registration is open for a one-day basketball handling and shooting camp at the Benton Street Omak Community Center, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 30. Genealogical Society

The Okanogan County Genealogical Society will celebrate Christmas at its meeting at 2 p.m. this Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Wilson Research Center in Okanogan. The theme will be "ethnic Christmas treats," with members encouraged to bring traditional treats and recipes that their family has served over the years. Members and guests can discuss how Christmas was celebrated in their families. Everyone is also asked to bring any projects they have completed during the past year and share their research. Candy, cookies and other goodies will be included in the annual white elephant sale. The meeting is open to everyone.
