BREWSTER

Appreciation Dinner

The American Legion in Brewster will hold its annual Appreciation Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 11. Dinner consists of beef roast, potatoes, veggies, a roll and salad, and is free for returning members paid for 2013 and new members. Cost for non-members is $8.50.

Legion pool tourney

American Legion Post 97 hosts its weekly pool tournament each Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $5. There were 10 players at the Nov. 4 tournament. Zearl Wilson won first place, Gale Nilsen won second and Thea Nilsen took third.

SOS

Hurry on over to the Community Log Church every Wednesday for Bible stories, songs, snacks, games and much more fun! This opportunity is open to kids in kindergarten through sixth grades after school, from 3:15 to 5 p.m. The church is located at 209 S. 4th St.

HOSTS

The Brewster Elementary School HOSTS program is looking for mentors to work with students in reading. HOSTS is an acronym for "Help One Student To Succeed." Kids work one-on-one with a mentor for 45 minutes from Tuesday through Friday. It is a very rewarding program to see the growth in the kids, but the main thing about our program is the lifelong bond that is made between a student and the mentor. Help a local cancer patient

The family of Brittan Schmidt, who has a rare form of brain cancer, has established a fund to help pay for medical expenses as he undergoes treatment. Donations can be dropped off at Sterling Bank and Wells Fargo Bank in Brewster.

CJCS dues

Chief Joseph Community Services is asking its customers to continue making the annual dues payment to help keep the service going. For more information, call Secretary/Treasurer Lew Gipe at 689-2097 or President Tracy Zahn at 686-2510.

Developmental screening

Bridgeport School District Special Services Program provides free developmental screening for all students residing in the district age 3-21. If you suspect your child has a disability please contact Raelynn or Mayra at 686-5656 to schedule a screening.

PATEROS

Thanksgiving lunch

The Pateros School District will host Thanksgiving lunches next Tuesday, Nov. 13. Our food service staff is preparing a special lunch with all the traditional Thanksgiving fixings. Everyone is welcome. The elementary school lunch starts at 11 a.m. and the junior high and high school lunch begins at 11:50 a.m. The cost is $3.75 for adults and $2.25 for preschool-age children.

See old friends, make new ones

A group of women that began gathering in 2003 and gave themselves the unofficial nickname "Sisters from Different Misters" will meet Nov. 27 for an after 5 dress-up ladies' night at Rivers Restaurant. Hors d'ouevres and wine will be served, and there will be a cover charge of $20 or less. All women from the Quad Cities are invited to come dressed up, or however they're comfortable, to enjoy some good food and good times. Mended Hearts

Greater Wenatchee Mended Hearts Chapter 91 offers help, support and encouragement to heart patients and their families in North Central Washington. The next meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Smitty's Pancake House, 1621 N. Wenatchee Ave. in Wenatchee. North Central RPO meeting

Noxious weed conference

The Okanogan County Noxious Weed Control Board is sponsoring our fall noxious weed conference, which will be worth eight credits towards your pesticide license! Presenters at the conference will discuss water quality, adjuvants, tank cleaning and drift reduction; spray equipment cleaning, winterizing, and calibration; noxious weed identification; pesticide storage; bio control; predicting the future of noxious weeds; agency updates; and our Class A invader watch. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds Annex/Agriplex.
