Red Barn Events: Lowell Skoog

Wednesday, December 15 we will host Lowell Skoog, author of “Written in the Snows” for an evening of Northwest ski culture from past to present. Doors open at 6:30 pm for a community social with local beer and wine available for purchase and the presentation begins at 7 pm. As a skier, climber, writer, and photographer, Lowell Skoog has been a keen observer of Northwest mountaineering since the 1970s. He is a Washington ski legend. Red Barn will also host Dan Namankin - k?oup lus enim k”la (Thunder and Lighting), a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes. Thursday, December. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a community social with local beer and wine available for purchase and the presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Dan is a sought-after inspirational speaker and Indigenous cultural educator who has committed himself to the education for our children on behalf of future generations. Sharing in the forms of song, story, performance art, and humor. Since these events are now indoors in close quarters, only people who are vaccinated for COVID-19 (regardless of eligibility) may attend but must wear a mask. Thank you for following this honor system. Windows will be open during the event (along with an air purifier operating), so please bring a layer to keep you warm. Cashmere

Holiday Care Boxes for deployed soldiers

The Cashmere American Legion Auxiliary #64 is looking for addresses of deployed soldiers to send holiday care boxes. If anyone has a loved one deployed or knows of one who would appreciate a care package from home and would share their address, please leave at the Cashmere Post Office or call Auxiliary President, Linda Ingraham, 509-679-0243. A collection box for donations of snacks and personal items will be at the post office until the first week in December. You can also call any auxiliary member for pickup. Please support our soldiers.

NCW Library Events

Will host Author Robin Wall Kimmerer in a virtual program on Dec. 9. at 7 p.m. and is being offered on the Zoom digital meeting platform. Kimmerer is a mother, scientist, professor, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. She is the author of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants as well as Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses.

Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) is turning 50!

WAGS is your destination for local genealogy and history in North Central Washington. We will be celebrating our founding and accomplishments over the course of the coming year with several events highlighting our community and its rich history (as Covid guidelines allow). Our 50th celebration gets underway Monday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. with a Zoom presentation that walks through the beginnings of our organization and celebrates the research achievements of our members, join us to discover the history of WAGS.
