Kindergartners invited

to open house

Future Vale Elementary School kindergartners and their parents are invited to an open house at 6 p.m. May 23 at the school. Stop by the school office at 210 S. Division St., Cashmere, to pick up a registration packet before the event. Registration for preschool and kindergarten (for children who will be age 4 and 5 by Aug. 31, 2016) is underway.

United Methodists offer Community Taize Service

A community Taize Service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 15 at Cashmere United Methodist Church, 213 S. Division St., Cashmere. All are welcome to attend for a service of music, silence, candlelight, prayer and scripture.

Storytime goes

to the next level

Cashmere Public Librarian Lisa Lawless announces an additional story time for "younger children" at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, which will include more physical activity and participation.

The weekly Wednesday storytime, at 10 a.m., will be offered as well. The library is located at 300 Woodring, Cashmere. For information call 782-3314.

Young Life sells strawberries

Leavenworth Young Life Strawberry Fundraiser is getting started. Proceeds help send Young Life kids to camp. Orion Expeditions offers birding raft trip

Orion Expeditions invites birders, ages 12 and up, on a rafting trip and bird walk Saturday, May 14, to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day 2016. The three-hour program starts by floating through the mellow and scenic lower Wenatchee River. Registration is $35. Proceeds benefit the Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest, held May 19-22 in Leavenworth. Trout Unlimited

teaches fly fishing

Icicle Valley Trout Unlimited is offering an introduction to fly fishing for women 16 years of age and older from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11, at Mountain Springs Lodge in Plain. The class will be taught by Doug Pendleton, Icicle Valley chapter member and owner of Northwest Fly Fishing Academy. Cost is $30, all of which goes to the chapter's conservation fund. No experience is necessary and all equipment is provided. Each participant is guaranteed to catch and gently release a rainbow trout. Participants also receive a free one-year membership to Trout Unlimited, America's premier cold water conservation organization. Call 548-7747 to register. Space is limited.

Learn about concussions

"Heads up on concussions: Lessons from the frontline," a free summit for parents, coaches, school administrators, athletic trainers and young athletes, is from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at the Wenatchee Convention Center, 121 N. Wenatchee Ave., Wenatchee. Learn signs and symptoms of concussions, how to help recognize a concussion and what to expect from the healthcare provider who is managing the concussion. Featured speaker is Dr. Stan Herring, team physician with the Seahawks and Mariners. The event is co-sponsord by Confluence Health and the Brain Injury Alliance of Washington. The Greater Wenatchee Sunrise Lions Club will hold its 24th annual Peace Officer Luncheon at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the Wenatchee Convention Center. Cost for the buffet lunch is $15. The luncheon includes Officer of the Year awards and a memorial ceremony to honor those officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty. The public is welcome. Call 886-0894.

All Service Club Golf tourney coming May 26

Tee it up for the second annual "All-Service Club Golf Tournament" hosted by Wenatchee Central Lions Club at Three Lakes Golf Course on Thursday, May 26, with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Format is four-person scramble. The entry fee is $75 for an individual golf and $300 for a team of four which includes golf, cart, range balls, a box lunch and appetizers. Gun safety class offered

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the NCW Gun Club are offering a Handgun Safety Training Class from 9 a.m. to noon June 5 at the NCW Gun Club, 2740 Gun Club Road, East Wenatchee. The goal of the training is to reduce the likelihood of handgun related injury or death by educating citizens on proper handgun safety skills.

Columbia Valley Girls

on the Run host 5K event

Columbia Valley Girls on the Run will host its annual end-of-season 5K event at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee. Registration for the event can be found at CVCH.org/GOTR5k. Proceeds benefit the Columbia Valley Girls on the Run Program, including scholarships for girls that cannot afford the full registration price. Friends of the Wenatchee Library host book sale

The Friends of the Wenatchee Library annual book sale is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at Pybus Public Market, Wenatchee. Books, DVDs, videos from 50 cents to $2. All proceeds benefit the Wenatchee Public Library, including the children's summer reading program.
