Drama students present

'A Likely Story'

The Cashmere High School drama department presents the North Central Washington premiere of the murder mystery comedy "A Likely Story" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, Thursday, Oct. 22 and Saturday, Oct. 24 in the Cashmere Middle School Auditorium.

The ticket price is $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are only available at the door. It is general seating and the box office opens 45 minutes before each show. (See page 1 for the story.)

Peshastin

Citizenship classes offered Tuesdays through May

Citizenship Classes are being offered in English and Spanish from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays through May at Peshastin-Dryden Elementary School, 10001 School St., Peshastin. Materials are free of charge. For information, call Alex Schmidt 548-7012 or Laurie Peek 548-7186.

WVC Theater-Mission Creek Players present 'Cabin Fever'

The Wenatchee Valley College Theater Department and Mission Creek Players have combined to present Cabin Fever by Joan Schenkar. The production takes place in the campus theater, Wells Hall, 1500 Fifth St., Wenatchee. The play begins at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23, 24, 29 and 30. This comedy of menace features three malevolent New England oldsters on a country porch reciting horrifying and hysterically funny stories about local customs.

General admission is $12; students with student ID are $8. Tickets are available in advance at The Tumbleweed Shop and Studio, 105 Palouse St., Wenatchee, or by calling 509-423-4722, or at the door the day of the show.

Pack picks up trash

Instead of a Pack Walk in October, Wenatchee FIDO (Friends Improving Dog Opportunities) members are picking up trash at the Hale Park Off Leash Dog Area for Make a Difference Day Saturday, Oct. 24. The effort is set from 9 a.m. to noon at the soon-to-be park, at the south end of the Apple Capital Loop Trail by the pedestrian pipeline bridge. The group will walk south from Pybus Market at 9. Trash bags will be provided by the city. Bring gloves and dress appropriately. Volunteers must be age 18 and above. For information email info@wenatcheefido.org.

Meet the author of 'The Mockingbird Next Door'

The North Central Regional Library's Columbia River Reads selected Marja Mills' memoir "The Mockingbird Next Door: Life With Harper Lee" for its regional reading experience, encouraging everyone in the community to read and discuss the book.

A New York Times, USA Today and National Indie bestseller, "The Mockingbird Next Door" is one journalist's memoir of her friendship with Harper Lee, author of "To Kill A Mockingbird."

Local libraries hosted book discussions in September and October. Now those interested are invited to meet the author at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Wenatchee Library, 310 Douglas St., Wenatchee. The free presentation will be followed by a book signing.

Hallow-Queens Drag Show benefits YWCA

The Hallow-Queens Drag Show, a benefit for the YWCA Wenatchee Valley's women's and children's homeless program, starts at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Numerica Performing Arts Center, 123 N. Wenatchee Ave., Wenatchee. The event includes three headliners, Arianna Kaine, Belle Du Soleil and LeLani Kaine (Miss LGBT Spokane 2015). Tickets are $25, available at numericapac.orgMedia. Orchard Middle School hosts ski swap

The Orchard Middle School PTO - MRST Annual Ski Swap is set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 24 in the gym at Orchard Middle School, 1024 Orchard St., Wenatchee.

Traditionally, lines of prospective buyers form at the entrance at 7:30 a.m. so buyers are encouraged to get there early. As in past years, 20 percent of all proceeds from the ski swap will benefit the Orchard Middle School PTO and the Mission Ridge Ski Team.

Buyers will find hundreds of choices in new and used ski equipment, including alpine and cross-country skis, snowboards, boots, poles, helmets as well as outdoor clothing and accessories. Knowledgeable sales staff will be on hand to answer questions during the event. Sellers may bring their items to mark for sale to Orchard Middle School from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Qualified staff will be on hand to help price items. Items that will not be accepted include straight skis or adult sized rear-entry alpine boots.

Established in 1967, The Mission Ridge Ski Team is a 501c3 nonprofit organization falling under the umbrella of the Mission Ridge Ski Education Foundation.

MRST has a long lustrous history and is recognized throughout the United States and Canada for developing athletes from the beginning level racer to the United States Ski Team. MRSEF currently trains 160-plus athletes ranging in age from 5-20.

Wildfire and Us Summit invites conversation for the future


The Wildfires and Us Advisory Committee is hosting a Wildfires and Us Summit on Nov. 9 at the Numerica Performing Arts Center to talk about a regional approach to reducing the risks of wildfire loss. The goal of the summit is to initiate the dialog of how communities can better live with and prepare for wildfires and develop a comprehensive approach for reducing the risk of wildfire loss. Action items will be outlined for individuals and communities and a panel of policy makers will make short presentations discussing strategies for moving forward. Question and answer sessions will follow. The doors open at 3 p.m. and the program begins at 4 p.m. with a reception to follow. The Wildfire and Us Summit is free and open to the public; anyone interested in the effects of wildfire is encouraged to attend.
