Stuff the Bus food drive set for Saturday

A Stuff the Bus food drive is planned from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Cashmere United Methodist Church, 213 S. Division. Drop off your donations of non-perishable food to benefit the Cashmere Food Bank. The goal is to fill the entire bus.

CMS after-school program needs volunteers

An after-school program for Cashmere Middle School starts in October. Community volunteers are being sought to support the teaching and support staff of Cashmere Middle School in the library from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. This program would include connecting with the students on organization and completion of homework assignments, helping with reading and other skills. Anthropologist shares stories of Washington fruit

Red Cross, Kiwanis organize blood drive

An American Red Cross Blood Drive, sponsored by the Wacoka Kiwanis Club, is set for Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the Cashmere Riverside Center, 201 Riverside Drive, Cashmere. Recent events have left blood banks low on blood, so if you don't already have an appointment to donate, call 1-800-733-2767. Drop ins are also welcome. (er40)

EASE Cancer Foundation hosts fundraiser

Jeff Lowe's film "Metanoia" is presented by Sun Mountain Lodge and EASE Cancer Foundation at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 at Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop. Lowe has an undiagnosed disease similar to ALS. His spirit has been indomitable through all of the highs and lows of a terminal, debilitating illness. The film is a fundraiser for Lowe, but funds will also go to the EASE Cancer Foundation. Auction benefits Wenatchee Valley College Knights

The Wenatchee Valley College Knights coaches and athletes are hosting an evening of food, drinks and auction excitement at the seventh annual Knight Athletics Auction and Extravaganza at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 in Smith Gym on the WVC campus, 1300 Fifth St., Wenatchee. Grief workshop series starts Oct. 14

Wenatchee Free Methodist Church is sponsoring an eight-week "Life During Grief" Workshop beginning 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, for those who have you suffered a significant loss and are having difficulty resolving grief. EASE offers cancer survivorship workshop

EASE Cancer Foundation is offering a cancer survivor workshop Oct. 9 and 10 at Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop. The workshop features a screening of Jeff Lowe's film "Metanoia," as well as information about cancer, therapies, cancer risk reduction and symptom management, stress and weight management, whole food cooking classes, applied art therapy, genetic screening and more. WV Erratics meets

Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum, 127 S. Mission, Wenatchee. The topic is subglacial lakes under the Cordilleran Ice Sheet in the Okanogan Valley. The program is free. (er40)

Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society

The monthly meeting is on Pennsylvania: The Gateway State by Anne Livingston. Anne Livingston, instructor and library specialist at Wenatchee Valley College, will guide our genealogical research journey through Pennsylvania. Many of our immigrant families lived in or passed through Pennsylvania, particularly those from Germany and the British Isles. We'll learn more about Pennsylvania's geographical regions, history, settlement and migration paths, providing us with keys to unlock the unique research problems of the Keystone State. Wenatchee Valley Farmers Market's Fall Harvest Baking Contest is 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 10 at Pybus Market, 3 N. Worthen, Wenatchee. Entry forms must be submitted by Oct. 6, by mail or email. Drop off the baked items, with recipes, between 9 and 10 a.m. Oct. 10 at the Country Financial tent at the farmers market. Judging begins at 10:30. Winners will be announced a noon. Bakers must be present to win. Photographs of winners will be taken and recipes may be included in a future farmers market cookbook. All baked goods must be from scratch. Categories include apple pie, other pies, cookies and bars, breads and muffins, cakes, and kids category (13 and under). Judging will be based on flavor, appearance and originality. The Community Foundation of NCW is taking reservations for the 6th Annual Nonprofit Board Celebration Dinners. In partnership with the Icicle Fund, the Board Celebration Dinner provides an opportunity to thank and recognize the dedication, leadership, and commitment of nonprofit board service across North Central Washington. The dinner is open to volunteer board members serving nonprofits in Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties. Guests can choose to attend on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee or Thursday, Oct. 15 at Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop. Both dinners begin at 5:30 p.m. and include a special presentation by Nancy Long, executive director of 501 Commons. Reservations online are required along with a $75 refundable deposit to reserve a seat. The deposit is returned at the event.
