Youth basketball

The 2015 Cashmere Youth Basketball season is here. We invite all girls and boys in 3rd - 6th grade to join us no matter what your skill level. Registration started Sept. 1 and ends Oct. 1.

West Monitor Bridge closed

Necessary repairs will require the closure of the West Monitor Bridge beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 8 a.m.

This work will be completed by a WSDOT crew. The bridge will remain closed until work is completed, which is anticipated to be no later than end of day Thursday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m. All work schedules are dependent on equipment and weather.

Please plan to use an alternate route both days and watch for closure signs. Call 667-6341 with questions. (er36)

Win a dream vacation to Bavaria

The Leavenworth Rotary Club is selling tickets for another dream vacation to Bavaria. Tickets are going fast, so purchase your tickets from a Leavenworth Rotarian or stop by The Leavenworth Echo, 215-14th St. or call 509-548-5286.

Cascade Medical Foundation Home and Garden Tour

Cascade Medical Foundation will hold its 20th annual Home and Garden Tour on Saturday, Sept. 19, from noon to 5 p.m.

This year's tour will take place in the Leavenworth area and features seven unique and lovely homes. Tickets are $20 per person at the Cascade Medical admitting desk and on the Cascade Medical Foundation's website. Tickets will also be sold at all of the homes the day of the tour.

Dinner fundraiser to support Syrian Refugee Benefit

Please join John and Wendy Fishburne as their team partners with two schools in northern Jordan Refugee villages, bringing Hope in Education to the Forgotten Generation of Syria's Children. The burden of rebuilding the nation and culture of Syria will fall on the young ones... whose educational hopes and dreams have been shattered. Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Red Tail Canyon Farm. Dinner under the Stars and the Eclipsing Full Moon with the Holly Blue Band. $15 dinner tickets will soon be available at Leavenworth Mountain Sports. Wildfire Relief Fund

United Way of Chelan and Douglas Counties established a wildfire relief fund in June in response to the Sleepy Hollow Fires, and started a new effort Aug. 20, spurred by The City of Seattle which is allowing employee's to make payroll deduction donations to United Way though the month of September.

On Aug. 24,Seattle-based KOMO4 is teaming up with United Way of Chelan and Douglas Counties to raise money for those affected by the wildfires, with 100 percent of the contributions going directly to the relieve efforts. There are two ways to donate. You can go directly to the United Way's Wildfire Relieve Fund (www.uwcdc.org) or you can go through the KOMO 4 Problem Solvers donation page. (er35,36)

SCORE Workshops

The Central Washington SCORE organization is one of more than 600 in the United States with more than 13,000 mentors, 13 of which are in North Central Washington. The local SCORE group is sponsoring a series of workshop sessions which will address different business factors. Reserve your place for any or all of these workshops. SCORE mentors and other experts will lead these sessions. Coming up, Sept. 8-Financial Fundamentals of Running a Business and on Sept. 22-Cash Flow Management. The fee for each workshop is $25. Genealogical Society

The Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society presents A Potlatch, by Fred Pflugrath. A potlatch is a gift-giving feast, still practiced by tribes in the Pacific Northwest. WAGS member Fred Pflugrath, recently honored by the Washington State Genealogical Society for his outstanding achievement in researching Civil War veterans in Eastern Washington, will gift us with unique insights into the history and culture of Native American tribes in the Lower Columbia. Columbia River Reads

NCRL is excited to announce the Fall Columbia River Reads book "The Mockingbird Next Door" by Marja Mills. In Mills's memoir, she recounts her time living next door to the enigmatic author of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Go Set a Watchman" Harper Lee and her sister Alice Lee. The book gives great insight into Harper Lee's life and of the town and its inhabitants that inspired "To Kill a Mockingbird." Marja Mills will be at the Wenatchee Public Library on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. to discuss the book. This is a free event that is open to the public. For information visit www.ncrl.org/columbiariverreads.
