The Samurai Revolution

Samurai historian Romulus Hillsborough, author of "Ryoma," "Shinsengumi,"and "Samurai Tales," shares his latest book on Japanese history, "Samurai Revolution." Enjoy a captivating presentation on a tumultuous moment in history, when the Shogan fell, the Emperor rose, and warring feudal states were transformed into the modern Japanese state. Freewheel: a public bicycle work station

Join Tim Rogers of the dynamic blog Nature of Motion, as he offers the community of Leavenworth a peek at his unique lifestyle- sans automobile- and a chance to preview plans and ideas involved in creating a public bicycle work station. The event is aimed at fundraising and generating community dialogue for the location and installation of this space. Cornerstone Anniversary

Join us for a carnival as part of our Cornerstone

Community Anniversary Celebration. The family event is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Cornerstone Adult Family Home, at the corner of Titus and Detillion in Leavenworth. Wellington Tours

Plan to visit the site of the March 1, 1910 avalanche that swept two trains off their tracks, killing 96 people, still considered the worst avalanche in United States History. This popular narrated tour will stop at sites along the Stevens Pass Highway that were significant to Great Northern Railway history, including Wellington. The event will be hosted by the Upper Valley Museum in Leavenworth. The tour will leave the Icicle Village Resort at 9:30 a.m. and return between 3:30 and 4 p.m. The dates are July 31, Aug. 1, 7, 8, 21 and 22. Vacation Bible School

Leavenworth Village Voices picnic for prospective members

Leavenworth Village Voices invite individuals who love to sing and who may be interested in joining the group to a picnic on Monday, Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. in Lion's Club Park in Leavenworth. Attendees can learn more about the choir while enjoying food, beverages, and singing with current members. Rehearsals for the new season will begin on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church. Peshastin

Peshastin Ice Cream Social

Peshastin Library's annual Ice Cream Social sponsored by Friends of the Peshastin Library is scheduled for Saturday evening, July 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. on the library lawn. Ice cream, cakes, pies, and cookies will be served. Scenic Route, featuring Dave Judd, will be performing throughout the evening. Paul Anderman, the Juggler, will be on hand to entertain both young and old. Kids can ride the Auxiliary Fire Truck thanks to the Peshastin Volunteer Fire Department. Jump for Fun will have inflatable toys for kids to enjoy. A used book sale and cake spin will be in back of the library. Come and enjoy a fun evening and help support the Peshastin Library. (er29)

Dorothy Kennedy is celebrating her 100th birthday. An open house celebration is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 25 at the United Methodist Church, 213 S. Division Street, Cashmere.
