Winter magic returns to the PAC stage in Omak on Dec. 8

OMAK - Last season Okanogan Valley Orchestra & Chorus presented the video and live performance of the children’s book, “The Snowman”.  This was so well received that this concept is to be presented again with the beautiful film of “The Bear”.

The book by Raymond Briggs has been set to music and animated in a 26 minute film. It is described as a “Christmas adventure for children”. Released in 2000, it is the tale of a young girl who imagines what it would be like to have a polar bear as a pet. From there the girl and her bear embark on a magical journey, flying through the sky and up into the stars. The music is by Howard Blake, composer of “The Snowman”.

The music for “The Bear” includes vocal performances. The part of Tilly will be performed by Noni Alley, The Bear will be sung by Peter Steffen and Star Bear will be Jonathan McBride. In addition, the orchestra will also perform “Concert Suite from The Polar Express”.  

The Chorus brings much holiday cheer with “Nutcracker Jingles”, Beethoven’s “Hallelujah Chorus”, “Patapan Fantasia”, “Holiday Pops Trio”. Plus, the chorus will be joined by the Omak High School Choir for the song “Winter Dreams”. A special performance of Brassworks will take place in the lobby as well.

The concert is at an earlier time than usual, 2 p.m., to give plenty of time for families to enjoy the Omak parade and holiday activities also scheduled for Dec 8.
