Bears end state football season with loss to Napavine, 57-20

CENTRALIA – The Brewster varsity football team leveraged its second-place finish in the Central Washington 2B League into a trip to the state playoffs at Centralia last Saturday, Nov. 10,  but lost to Napavine, 57-20 to bring its season to a close.

Brewster won its Nov. 2 home crossover game against Mabton, 47-27, to earn a first-round state berth against the Tigers at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Centralia High School. Napavine, 4-1, finished in second place in the 2B Southwest league behind undefeated Adna.

The Tigers took control of the game in the first quarter putting 20 points on the scoreboard to Brewster’s 7. The Bears added 13 points in the second while Napavine put up another 19 to take a 39-20 lead into halftime. The Tigers led 45-20 by the end of the third and added another 12 points in the final quarter.

The Bears will lose seven seniors to graduation next June. They include running backs Joe Taylor, Jeff Sonneman, and Ernie Nanamkin, wide receiver Miguel Chacon, tight end Justin Knowlton, and outside linebacker Alfredo Nila.
