WELLPINIT – The Pateros varsity football team came from behind to take the lead in the fourth quarter on the road against the Redskins but lost 62-58 to Wellpinit 62-58 in the final seconds of play last Friday, Oct. 26.

“We came up a little short,” said Pateros head coach Marcus Stennes. “We were down big going into the fourth quarter but didn’t give up and were able to come back and take the lead with 53 seconds left but couldn’t get a stop.”

Scoring a combined 120 points between them both used up the entire field and the clock before the game was decided in the last minute of play.

“Ivan Ceniceros had a big day for us at quarterback passing and running,” Stennes said.

Ceniceros connected on 13 of 26 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 216 yards on 16 carries for five more.

Kobe Thrixton caught 7 of 10 passes for 112 yards and a TD.

The Billygoats fell behind by a touchdown in the first quarter, 16-8, but gained ground on Wellpinit in the second period, 22-18, to go into halftime trailing the Redskins by four points, 34-30. Wellpinit held Pateros scoreless in the third quarter while scoring two more TDs to extend its lead by 20, 50-30. In the final quarter the Billygoats came roaring back with four touchdowns and 28 points to Wellpinit’s 12.

“This is our final game of the season,” said Stennes. “We finished 4-4-1.”
