Brewster boys on a roll with four straight varsity wins

Posted

BREWSTER – The Bears varsity boys basketball team is starting its early season in a fashion reminiscent of last season’s undefeated league run. Brewster has won its first four games by margins of 20 points or greater including a 67-18 thrashing of Liberty Bell on the road last Saturday, Dec. 9.
Two days previously, the Bears invaded Oroville’s home court and stung the Hornets, 74-47, on Thursday, Dec. 7, for their third consecutive Central Washington 2B League win.

Double-digit scoring from five Bears proved to be too much for visiting Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday, Dec. 5, as the Raiders lost by 20 points, 64-44, to undefeated Brewster on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
Freshman Cade Gebbers with 12 points, and sophomore Corey Jarrell with 11, led an offensive attack that included 10 points each from Isaac Baker, Joe Taylor and Felix Nava that didn’t really see the Bears pull away until the second half.
The Bears and Raiders played head-to-head through the first two quarters with Brewster taking a 12-11 lead into the second quarter and Lake Roosevelt responding with a 13-11 performance and a one-point lead at halftime.
Whatever Brewster coach Tim Taylor said to his team prior to the third quarter should be etched in stone and hung on the locker room wall. The Bears came back onto the court and outscored their rivals three-to-one, 24-8 in the third quarter to all but put the game out of reach. Jarrell and Gebbers combined for five three-pointers and 19 of Brewster’s 24 points in the third period.
It was a toe-to-toe again in the fourth quarter as Lake Roosevelt answered shot-for-shot and outscored Brewster, 12-11, but it was far from enough to change the outcome.
Lake Roosevelt sophomore Adam George was the only Raider to break double digits with 10 points.
