Brewster faces Napavine in football state round of 16

BREWSTER – The opening round of 16 teams will kick off the State 2B Football Championship playoffs at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, when the No. 13 seed Brewster Bears meet No. 4 Tigers at Napavine. The winner of that matchup will be the winner of No. 12 Columbia playing at No. 5 Chewelah.

The 5-1 Bears finished second in the Central Washington 2B behind undefeated Lake Roosevelt and handed Mabton a 47-28 loss in a post-season crossover game on Champion Field last Friday, Nov. 2.

In a repeat of an earlier meeting of against the Viking, the Bears again dominated the game taking a 39-0 halftime lead. Head coach Jake Johanson rested his starters and gave his bench some playing time in the second half that allowed Mabton to put some points on the board with four scoring drives down the stretch.
