Brewster varsities make clean sweep of Okanogan, Shockers

BREWSTER – The Bears varsity basketball teams made a clean sweep of non-league Okanogan and Central Washington 2B rival Waterville-Mansfield in the opening week of their season last week, even though the boys let Okanogan come within five points, 80-75, at the final buzzer.

Joe Taylor and Corey Jarrell led the Bears over the Bulldogs, Thursday, Nov. 29, with 22 and 20 points respectively. Cade Gebbers hit for 16 points, Kade Kelpman added nine, and Quincy Vassar and Issac Baker had two apiece.

The Lady Bears got out early on Okanogan leading at the end of the first quarter, 11-3, 15-9 at the half, 31-16 after three to a final of 43-32. Michaun and

McKenna Kelpman led Brewster with 13 and 10 points respectively, Sammi Emigh hit for seven, and Brooklynne Boesel, six.

The Bears put on a three-ball clinic against visiting Waterville-Mansfield on Friday, Nov. 30, with nine treys in the first half and six in the second for a total of 45 points from beyond the arc.

The Shockers did not have an answer at either end of the court. Falling behind 20-4 in the first quarter, 50-7 by halftime and 54-15 at the end of the third.
Gebbers led all scorers with 20 points, Jarrell added 17, and Baker 10.

The Kelpman twins and Emigh hit for 14 points apiece to pace the Lady Bears to a 61-46 win over the Lady Shockers. Boesel pumped in 10 and Kim Nila had nine points.

Shockers freshman Ella Osborne kept Waterville-Mansfield in the game with 18 points while floor leader Elizabeth Katovich contributed 16.
