Bridgeport baseball teams fall to tough Liberty Bell opponents

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – The Mustangs and Fillies varsity baseball and softball teams ran into a buzz saw during their Central Washington 2B league home opener last Saturday, March 17, when they hosted two Liberty Bells teams that made it into the post-season playoffs last year.
While both teams played at either end of their home fields, the outcomes were similar as young, mostly inexperienced Bridgeport players confronted the seasoned Liberty Bell veterans who hope to make return trips to district and perhaps state competition.
Mustangs head coach Jesse Macy admitted that his team “started to fall apart later in the game” against the hard-charging Mountain Lions. “It was a lot of errors on our part, coupled with inexperience,” said Macy. “Still, not bad for a team with so many guys that have never played an organized game.  I’m excited to see how our guys develop and what they are capable of.”
The Mustangs scored a run to put themselves on the board in the 35-1 loss.

Across the field, coach Samantha Torres’ Fillies were taking a 31-0 beating at the hands of the Lady Lions but showed no sign of quit.
With a roster still heavy with freshmen and young players, the Fillies will gain valuable experience as they face league rivals who do not have the horsepower of Liberty Bell and Brewster.
Bridgeport was scheduled to host the Bears on Tuesday, March 20, and will meet Brewster again on the Bear’s field, Tuesday, March 27. In between is a doubleheader at Lake Roosevelt on Friday, March 23.
