Bridgeport returns seven veterans to Mustangs varsity basketball

BRIDGEPORT – The Mustangs lost half of their varsity lineup and several key players to graduation last June, including two, Brevin Evenson and Clay Morris, named respectively to the Central Washington 2B All-League Second and Third teams. The remainder of last season’s varsity are back with the added benefit of some valuable experience.
Returning as seniors this year are Edgar Alcantara, Edward Martinez, Gustavo Rivera, and Hugo Santana. Junior Ronaldo Ubaldo and sophomores Isaac Ochoa and Ricardo Vazquez round out the roster of returning varsity.
New varsity coach Pat McFadden his work cut out for him to fill the vacuum left by last season’s seniors but has almost 20 additional players to choose from, a number of those from last season’s junior varsity and ‘C’ squads. McFadden is changing hats from his recent tour at varsity football coach and will see several familiar faces from Mustangs football on the basketball court including Santana, Carlos Flores, Gilberto Padilla, Alejandro Romero, and Leonardo Sanchez.
The Mustangs finished last season with an overall record of eight wins and 11 losses, 3-5 on their home court and 5-6 on the road. Their single post-season appearance resulted in a loss to Tonasket.
Bridgeport’s CW2B opponents this season include Brewster, Manson, Soap Lake, Liberty Bell, Tonasket, Oroville, Lake Roosevelt, and Waterville-Mansfield.
The Mustangs host Soap Lake at 7:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 2. Bridgeport will be on the road to Manson on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
