Bridgeport wins on the road against Republic, LBHS

BRIDGEPORT – The road treated the Mustangs varsity basketball team kindly last week with back-to-back wins over Liberty Bell, 62-51, on Tuesday, Dec. 18, followed by Republic, 71-39, on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

The win at Liberty Bell gives Bridgeport a 2-4 record in the Central Washington 2B League, good for fourth-place tie with Tonasket at this writing, with the Mountain Lions a game ahead at 3-2 and Soap Lake trailing, 1-4.

With guard Issac Ochoa leading the charge at 26 points, the Mustangs led at all stops against the Mountain Lions. Seven other Mustangs hit in single figures to provide a good balance to the back-up scoring.

Republic falls
Three Mustangs, Ochoa, Romero, and Padilla hit in double figures with 15, 13, and 12 points respectively against Republic. Just three points separated the teams at halftime, 34-31, but the Mustangs held Republic scoreless in the third quarter while scoring 20 unanswered points to break the game open.

The Nannies lost their game against Liberty Bell, 58-39. No score was available the Republic game.

Bridgeport will next play in the North Central Washington Tournament at Entiat on Dec. 27-28.
