Mustangs open basketball season with consecutive wins

BRIDGEPORT – The Mustangs varsity basketball opened its season on a high note with a pair of wins, one over Central Washington 2B League rival Soap Lake and the other over non-league opponent Pateros.

Bridgeport hosted the Eagles in a 60-38 home opening win last Friday, Nov. 27, and narrowly defeated the Billygoats, 72-70, on the road last Monday, Dec. 3.

The Mustangs varsity roster includes two seniors, Ronaldo Ubaldo and Osvaldo Orozco, and six juniors, Gilberto Padilla, Carlos Flores, Alejandro Romero, Arturo Perez, Edwin Bucio, and Miguelangel Orozco. Ubaldo is a returning varsity veteran and the six juniors moved up from last year’s junior varsity.

Dan Cavadini has taken the reins as head coach this season, backed up by assistants Henry Austin and Cameron Cavadini. Axel Martinez is the team manager.

The Mustangs finished in seventh place in the Central Washington 2B League last season with a 6-10 record.

Bridgeport was scheduled to host Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday, Dec. 4, and travel to Manson on Friday, Dec. 7. The Mustangs will host Tonasket at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11.
