Fillies track team takes top honors at Bridgeport Invitational home meetSaucedo wins discus, shot put

BRIDGEPORT – The Fillies varsity track and field team, led by top finishers in the shot put and discus field events and 4x200 relay, won team point honors at its home Bridgeport Invitational track and field meet on Senior Night, Tuesday, May 1.
A total of 14 teams from schools ranging in size from 1B Upper Valley Christian in Leavenworth to 1A Omak, competed against local quad city athletes from Brewster, Pateros, Waterville-Mansfield and host Bridgeport.
The Fillies collected 122 team points to outdistance second-place Liberty Bell by 15.5. Omak won the boys’ division with 111.5 points. The Bridgeport boys placed seventh with 47 points.
Senior Emily Saucedo took first place in both the discus and shot, throwing the four-kilogram iron ball to a personal record (PR) distance of 35 feet, seven inches. Saucedo’s discus throw was 110 feet, seven inches, almost four feet beyond the second-place throw of 106’10 by teammate Itzel Munoz.
With Kaiden Morris tossing the discus 102’6, the Fillies swept the top three spots in the event and four of the tip five in the shot.
The Fillies’ 4x200 relay team finished first with a time of one minute-53.12 seconds and placed second in the 4x100 relay in 53.10 seconds.
Jasmine LeDuc took second in both the 200 meters with a PR time of 27.50 and long jump. Miriam Jimenez finished second in the 3200M in a PR time of 14:28.13.
Bridgeport’s Ricardo Vazquez finished second in the 400M in a PR 55.04. Issac Ochoa cleared PR nine feet for second in pole vault.
Brewster
Junior Alfredo Nila threw the discus to a second-place distance of 125’08. Sophomore teammate Ubaldo Arellano cleared the high jump in a PR 5’8, two inches higher than the PR 5’6 of third-place Ernie Nanamkin. Mario Guzman ran the 200M in a PR time of 24 seconds.
Kim Nila finished second in the girls’ javelin with a throw of 99’10. Freshman Miriam Garcia ran the 100M hurdles in 17.22 seconds for third place.
The girls’ 4x400 relay team placed third in 4:52.27, and junior Julissa Olvera ran to third place in the 3200 in a season record 14.52.80.
Pateros
Freshman sprinter Anna Williams won the 100M in 13.04 seconds, was third in the 200M in 27.53, and cleared the high jump bar at 4’6 for third place.
Waterville-Mansfield
Shockers’ freshman Elizabeth Katovich won the girls’ long jump with a PR leap of 15’5.
The 2B District 5/6 State Qualifier will be held Friday, May 18, at Kittitas Secondary School. The WIAA 1B, 2B, 1A State Championship Meet will run from Thursday-Saturday, May 24-26, at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
