Fillies volleyball chasing first league win

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – On the road this week at Oroville and hosting Manson, the Fillies varsity volleyball team is still looking for its first win among some tough competition in the Central Washington B-2B league this season.

Against the undefeated Lake Roosevelt Raiders at home last Thursday, Sept. 27, Bridgeport made a spirited run at the deeper and more experienced Lady Raiders, losing the first game of a four-set match, 16-25.

In the second game the Fillies responded with numerous sustained volleys and knotted the score at several points in the match before edging Lake Roosevelt, 25-22. In the end, however, the Lady Raiders showed why they remain among the unbeaten teams in the CWB along with Brewster and Manson. The Lady Raiders took the third game 25-13 and the fourth, 25-15.

The Fillies have been within striking against all opponents so far, winning at least one game against Liberty Bell, Waterville-Mansfield, Soap Lake, and Tonasket. Their only shutout came against Brewster in the first match of the season.

Bridgeport will host Manson at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, and play at Brewster at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9.
