WATERVILLE-MANSFIELD – The Lady Shockers are off to a good early season start with wins over Entiat and Republic on either side of a loss to defending Central Washington 2B champion Brewster. Waterville-Mansfield defeated Entiat, 41-26, on Tuesday, Nov. 27, fell to Brewster, 61-46, on the road, Friday, Nov. 28, and beat the Tigers at Republic, 62-23, on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The Lady Shockers lost three seniors to graduation last June including last season’s All-League First Team player Justine Clements. The good news is that the balance of the varsity team is back along with last season’s All-League Second Team guard Elizabeth Katovich.

With no seniors, only two juniors, seven sophomores, nine freshmen, and an eighth grader comprising the varsity and JV teams the Lady Shockers are a young team this season, but with good depth to build on down the road.

Returning to the varsity from Mansfield High School is junior guard Presley Avenell together with freshmen Katelyn Donaglia and Hayley Vargas on the junior varsity.

Moving up from junior varsity where she played last year as an eighth grader is freshman Ella Osborne whose performance against the defending Central Washington 2B League champion Brewster Lady Bears last Friday, Nov. 30, was eye-opening. The 5’9” forward scored 18 of the Lady Shockers’ 46 points including a pair from three-point range.

Katovich added 16 points and McKenna Gurnard hit a pair of threes with her eight points.

Kieth Finkbeiner is back as head coach, Abby O’Brien is JV coach and assistants are Brycen Greenwood and Katy Giddings.

The Lady Shockers were scheduled to host Liberty Bell on Tuesday, Dec. 4, followed by Cascade, Friday, Dec. 7, and Manson, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
