Lady Bears go 8-0 with Bridgeport win

Posted

BREWSTER – The Lady Bears varsity basketball team protected their Central Washington 2B 8-0 undefeated record with a 75-51 win over Bridgeport last Saturday, Jan. 5.

Brewster led as all stops as senior guard Kim Nila and junior forward Brooklynne Boesel combined for nine and eight points respectively in a 26-point first quarter barrage that found the Fillies trailing by 17 entering the second quarter.

While Bridgeport rallied to outscore Brewster by five in the second period, they were still 12 points down by halftime.

Bridgeport sophomore Karla Torres kept the Fillies within striking distance with a game-high 22 points including a hat trick of threes in the fourth quarter. Torres scored the shot of the night when she fell near the basket while being guarded by Brewster’s Kelsey Ochoa but still managed to bank in two points from her back on the floor.

Brewster junior Michaun Kelpman scored all 12 of her points from treys outside the perimeter while twin sister Mikenna and Sammi Emigh each added 12 points from the floor.

The Lady Bears were scheduled to meet the 7-1 second-place Lady Shockers at Waterville, Tuesday, Jan. 8, and host Tonasket at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11.

The Fillies had two games on the road against Soap Lake on Wednesday, Jan. 9, and Lake Roosevelt, Friday, Jan. 11.
