BREWSTER – The Lady Bears varsity softball team picked up where it left off in 2016 with a pair of wins over visiting Oroville, 15-0, and 17-2, last Saturday, March 18.
In four innings of the first game Brewster scored nine, three, one and two runs to trigger the 15-run Mercy Rule. In game two the Lady Bears had eight, two, three and four runs through four innings while the Hornets scored a run in the second and third before the game was again called in four.
Brewster ended its 2016 softball season as North Central Washington 2B League champions with a 13-0 record. The Lady Bears placed third in District 5/6 competition and finished fourth at State.
Coach Rick Miller lost three seniors to graduation including star pitcher and hitter, Markie Miller, along with center-fielder Vanessa Terrones and left-fielder, Kylee Vargas. A strong core of 12 returning veterans will make Brewster one of the teams to beat this season.
Miller has six freshmen, two sophomores, five juniors and one senior suited up this year.
Brewster was scheduled to play at Bridgeport, Tuesday, March 21, and will host Cashmere at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, Soap Lake for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. Friday, March 24, and Bridgeport on Monday, March 28.
