BRIDGEPORT – The Mustangs varsity soccer team persevered through a tough physical game against visiting Manson to edge the Trojans 2-1 last Saturday, April 21, and remain in second place in Central Washington 2B league soccer standings.
It’s the third time the two teams have met this season and the first time that the Mustangs emerged on the winning side. In their first meeting at Manson, March 24, the Trojans manhandled Bridgeport, 5-1, on their home pitch. Whatever magic the home field advantage held, it worked again on the teams’ second meeting in Manson that the Trojans took, 2-1.
The win puts Bridgeport solidly in second place in the CW2B with a 6-2 league record, 10-3 overall, behind the first-place and undefeated Brewster Bears.
The Trojans with an even 4-4 record, stand in third place, one game ahead of 3-4 Tonasket, in fourth place and Liberty Bell, fifth with a 3-5 record.
The Mustangs have three remaining games in the regular season beginning with the Hornets at Oroville on Thursday, April 26. Bridgeport will host Cashmere in non-league action at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, and Brewster at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1.
