PATEROS – The Billygoats varsity basketball team’s bid to move up from third place on the Central Washington 1B league ladder ran into a roadblock last Friday, Jan. 25, when second-place Riverside Christian dealt them a 53-48 loss.

In an earlier meeting on the Crusaders’ home court, Dec. 18, RC claimed a 51-43 victory.

The Crusaders got off to a solid 10-point, 20-10 lead in the first quarter and padded that with an additional two points at the end of the second to take a 29-17 advantage into the locker room. The teams traded points through the third period as the Crusaders added 16 to the Billygoats’ 15.

Pateros staged a rally in the fourth quarter as guards Ethan Freels and Sam Larsen hit 9 and 7 points respectively to outscore RC 16 to 8, but it fell short of closing the 13-point lead the Crusaders brought into the quarter.

Freels, Larsen, and Ethan Wall led Pateros with 14, 13, and 11 points respectively.

Levi Rivera, Justin Vickers, and Reagan Haas paced RC with 16, 12, 10 points.

The win raised the Crusaders to 7-1 and first-place in the CW1B, ahead of 6-1 Moses Lake Christian. Pateros is third at 4-4.

The Nannies, on the other hand, had the Lady Crusaders’ number with a 40-29 win that leaves Pateros in first place in CW1B rankings at 7-2, ahead of 6-1 Entiat and RC at 6-3.

Pateros was scheduled to host 3-3 Entiat on Tuesday, Jan. 29, and will play its final regular season game on the road at Wilson Creek on Friday, Feb. 5
