State veterans lead 2018 Bridgeport varsity track and field team

BRIDGEPORT – Four Filly veterans from the 2017 state track and field championships in Cheney will lead Bridgeport’s near-three-dozen varsity competitors into this year’s track and field season.
Emily Saucedo, Jasmine Leduc, Itzel Munoz and Lesly Velasco were among a dozen Bridgeport athletes who qualified for state competition last year.
Saucedo finished sixth in discus with a throw in excess of 107 feet and will once again specialize in field events.
Leduc, who set the Bridgeport school long jump record in 2016 with a leap of 15 feet, 4.75 inches placed 10th at state last year with a jump of 16 feet.
Munoz throws the shot and placed 15th at state with a throw in excess of 86 feet.
Velasco also scored a 15th place in the state 300-meter hurdles.
Following a couple of weeks of conditioning since the first day of practice on Feb. 27, Bridgeport will host the Bridgeport Jamboree on Thursday, March 16 starting at 4 p.m. Two days later the Mustangs and Fillies will be in Oroville for the Oroville Invitational on Saturday, March 18.
Bridgeport’s track and field head coach, Mike Selle will be assisted this year by Eric Schmidt and Mike Selle, Jr. Team managers are Maria Silva and Raquel Hernandez.
