Undefeated Lady Bears look ahead to post-season

Posted

BREWSTER – The Lady Bears varsity softball team has had to play up against 1A opponents like Cashmere to find anyone who will make it work for a win this season, and that was the story in Brewster’s latest doubleheader win over Manson, 24-0, and 15-0 last Saturday, April 29. It’s going to take some post-season competition to test the depth of the Central Washington 2B league leaders.
Manson coach, Kendra Farnsworth summed up the lopsided pace of last weekend’s games with a description of Brewster’s junior pitcher, Yvette Sanchez.
“She struck out nine of the 10 (Manson) batters she faced in only three innings,” Farnsworth said and added that the Lady Trojans managed only one hit in the first game.
Brewster had nine singles, two doubles and 14 walks in game one.
In game two, Sanchez threw 10 pitches in the Lady Trojans’ final at-bat. Nine of those were no contact or call strikes with the 10th a tick foul.
At one point in the second game Manson had the bases loaded but with two outs, could not convert their best scoring opportunity into a run.
Brewster racked up 11 singles, four doubles and seven walks.
The Lady Bears were scheduled to close out their regular season at Tonasket, Tuesday, May 2. The last time the two teams met on May 25, Brewster won, 18-3.
