Undefeated Lady Bears shut out Eagles, edge Liberty Bell

BREWSTER – The Lady Bears varsity volleyball team kept its undefeated streak intact with wins over Soap Lake at home, Oct. 2, and Liberty Bell on the road, Oct. 4.

Brewster took three straight from the Lady Eagles, 25-9, 25-13, and 25-12.

“Soap Lake made some terrific digs during the match,” said coach Marcy Boesel. “We had to work hard to terminate the ball. Our serving helped us out.”

Karina Martinez: 9/9 serving, 2 aces, 9 digs, 3 assists

It came down to a final 15-point tiebreaker against the Lady Lions as Brewster won the first game, 25-14, lost the next two, 23-25 and 23-25, won the fourth, 25-21, and took the final by two points, 15-13.

“Liberty Bell gave us a great fight on Thursday night,” said Boesel. “We had kids in different positions to compensate for injuries and were forced to step up and dig deep to pull out the win.” Boesel said senior Elizabeth Stam stepped up with strong leadership throughout the match.

Brewster was scheduled to host Bridgeport on Cancer Awareness Night at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Lady Bears meet Lake Roosevelt on the road Thursday, Oct. 11, and Ephrata, Saturday, Oct. 13.
