BREWSTER – It’s still early in the season, but so far nobody has been able to touch the Brewster varsity girls basketball team, though Lake Roosevelt came the closest on Tuesday, Dec. 5, when the Lady Raiders came within 16 points of the undefeated Lady Bears.
Both teams traded baskets during the first half with Brewster taking a one-point 17-16 lead in the first quarter and holding on through a 10-10 second quarter to go into the locker room up 27-26.
Senior guard and team co-captain Maret Miller scored 12 of her game-high 22 points through the first three quarters and 10 in the fourth to help Brewster pull away in the final minutes. Miller had help from three teammates who also hit in double-digits to help balance the scoring. They included Sammi Emigh with 14 points, Marlisa Garcia with 12, and Yvette Sanchez with 11.
Raiders senior Kayla St. Pierre kept Lake Roosevelt in the game with 17 points scored mainly in the first and fourth quarters.
