Legion members remember Pearl Harbor

Posted
American Legion Post No. 97 in Brewster honored the memory of the Americans killed in the attack at Pearl Harbor with a special ceremony Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Legion post in Brewster.

Brewster Mayor Lee Webster and Brewster Police Chief Ron Oules helped lay the wreath; Dick Mayor, commander at Legion Post No. 82 in Tonasket was the guest speaker, along with help from Post No. 82 adjutant Mike Berg, who helped with the service flags. Sherilyn Jacobson, Legion Post No. 218 in Bridgeport, also helped with the service flags. Hugh Osborne, Legion Post No. 54 in Chewelah, helped provide the firing squad.

The ceremony commemorates the lives lost in the Dec. 7, 1941 attack that propelled the U.S. in World War II; by the end of the Japanese attack on that sunny Sunday morning, 2,390 American sailors, soldiers and civilians had been killed.

The Legion speakers remembered their sacrifice and saluted them with a 21-gun salute and Taps.
