Area residents survive collision with logging truck

Jennifer Marshall Best
Herald Staff Writer

EAST WENATCHEE - A Bridgeport woman was in critical condition in Seattle on Tuesday, the day after a vehicle she was riding in collided with a logging truck near East Wenatchee.

At about 4:41 p.m. Monday, Jesus M. Aparicio, 65, of Brewster was driving north on Highway 2 about 15 miles north of the city when he made a left-hand turn into the path of a 1989 International truck, according to a Washington State Patrol report. The truck then struck the car, a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero, on the right side.

Aparicio was in satisfactory condition Tuesday at Central Washington Hospital, as was one of his passengers, 2-year-old Vanessa Perez-Escareno of Brewster.

The other passenger, 36-year-old Maria Escareno-Santos of Bridgeport, was in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center at last report.

The driver of the truck, Lorin E. Massingale, 48, of Concrete, was not injured.
