Makeover for Bridgeport PUD office almost complete

Posted
Okay, it wasn't one of those deals where the crew shows up in the bus and knocks down the whole house before rebuilding it for some deserving family, and it isn't the one where the two style gurus show up and insult the contributor's wardrobe before they throw it all away and help her buy a new one. But it turns out a makeover can benefit a building just like a person; case in point, the Douglas County PUD building in Bridgeport.

It was getting pretty sad; that old cinderblock-utilitarian-relevant look was all the rage, especially for public buildings, back about 1967 or so, but now it's soooo Age of Aquarius. Other PUD buildings were starting to make remarks. Those soffits, so weathered! That cinderblock, so-so-Johnson Administration, despite all those coats of white paint! Well. The next step was a building psychiatrist (hey, there are canine psychiatrists) or a makeover; the PUD chose the makeover.

Those old droopy weathered soffits were replaced and last week the construction crew was working on that cinderblock, covering it over with a nice coat of stucco. So 21st Century, so modern. So not dowdy old aunt, so hip, fresh facelift.

That's just the first step-the Douglas County PUD commissioners have included some money to fix up the interiors of PUD buildings in the 2009 budget.
