Brewster High School Class of 2018 graduates 54 strong in outdoor ceremony

BREWSTER – Fifty-six seniors – two of them in spirit – braved a brisk southwest wind and overcast skies to graduate Brewster High School in an outdoor ceremony on Champion Field last Saturday, June 8.
In spite of the threatening weather the commencement came off without incident as Zulema Sotelo and Jessica Madrid welcomed family and friends to the occasion. The two graduates acknowledged a pair of chairs, empty but for the photos of deceased classmates Jesse Gomez and Jesus Garcia, placed on the podium where the 54 Brewster High School seniors took their seats.
Marta Martinez and Clarissa Zepeda conducted the Invocation followed by Salutatorian Sandra Esquivel’s address.
Brewster School Superintendent Eric Driessen presented this year’s Wall of Fame award to the late Sheryl Smith, a 1975 BHS graduate whose mother, Betty Smith, accepted the award on behalf of her daughter.
Yvette Sanchez and Naydelin Arevalo acknowledged former Brewster graduates followed by Maret Miller and her Valedictorian address.
Amy Stennes of the Student Services Specialist recognized graduates who have committed to active duty in the U.S. military and acknowledged Department Award winners.
Rob Robinson was Class Speaker while Nayeli Ortega and Rosa Velasco conducted the senior slide show.
Abby Urias and Ana Aparicio delivered the Benediction.
