Brewster student places in national art competition

Posted

BREWSTER – Aubrey Thorn, the home-schooled 10-year-old daughter of Greg and Holly Thorn, just completed fourth grade at the Log Church Christian School in Brewster. One of Thorn’s instructors at the school is Angelina Walker who teaches art to the third and fourth graders there. The medium appeared to be an ideal fit for the young prodigy who was encouraged to enter her work into national competition.
Thorn submitted a painting of the northern lights that she titled “Aurora’s Majesty” to the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) 2018 national Art  Contest. Out of some 150 entries for her 7-10-year age group, Thorn placed second. Her work will be on display outside Washington, D.C., for one year. Thorn’s entry, along with other current and past winners, can be viewed on the HSLDA website at https://hslda.org/content/contests/Art_main.aspx.
Thorn is the second oldest of six siblings.
“In addition to art the three oldest girls enjoy singing and dancing,” said their father. “They currently take ballet, tap and jazz through LFW Dance Academy in Omak.”
Greg Thorn is the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Brewster and teaches physical education at the Log Church Christian School.
