Bridgeport Daze scores a big hit with smoking tires, prancing hooves, music

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – Another successful Bridgeport Daze is in the books for the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce that organized and supervised the annual event for its second consecutive year.
Chamber president Vince Martinez, who was working the parade route as entrants that began lining up at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 2, said that while some participants from the previous year could not return, others like the nearly two dozen prancing horses, turned out in more numbers than ever before. Chelan Fruit sponsored a flatbed trailer and band playing live Mexican music. The Columbia River Quilt Guild, three Rivers Hospital, and Brewster’s Mi Pueblo Market represented the diversity of groups, services and businesses that took part in the celebration.
As marchers, bands, business entries, motorcycles, horses, classic cars and more began to depart at intervals down Columbia Avenue at 11 a.m. spectators lining both side of the main street enthusiastically showed their approval of the music, tossed treats, smoking tires, dancing horses and other diversions.
Fireman Park featured everything from merchandise and custom crafts to the Bridgeport FFA’s barbecue booth and other food vendors. Basketball hoops set up at Columbia Avenue and 10th Street were ready for teams of three-on-three players and several softball teams played in the own tournament nearby.
Bridgeport High School’s Class of 2018 had graduated the day previous and the weather was perfect for a day of fun, relaxation and community.
