Posted

RUFUS WOODS LAKE - On Sunday, August 4 at approximately 7:09 p.m., Douglas County Deputies were dispatched to Rufus Woods Lake above the Chief Joseph Dam in regards to a possible drowning. When Deputies arrived, they found Manuel De Jesus Galarza-Martinez, a 26-year-old male out of Bridgeport, lying on the shore unresponsive. Deputies attempted life saving measures, but were ultimately unsuccessful.
Deputies learned Martinez had been swimming with friends when he went under the water. After he did not resurface friends dove in, found him unresponsive, pulled him to shore and then called for help.
Douglas County Sheriff Kevin Morris advised The Quad last Tuesday that there is no new developments in the search for Charles Baker, an 81-year-old boater who was last seen last May 27. Baker’s boat was found drifting on the Columbia River five miles above Chief Joseph Dam.
