Chamber hears emergency communications, career expo coming Oct. 19

BREWSTER – Representatives from the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office and Okanogan County Economic Alliance attended the regular meeting of the Brewster Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, August 7.
Mike Worden Chief of Special Operations/Communications for the sheriff’s office provided an overview of the Nov. 5 ballot measure to request a sales tax increase to fund upgrades to the county emergency services communications system.
Economic Alliance Executive Director Roni Holder-Diefenbach updated the chamber concerning the Okanogan County Career Connections Expo coming to the Okanogan County Fairground Agriplex on Oct. 19. The Expo is designed to expose high school students to the variety of career opportunities available to them both inside and outside the county.
Diefenbach said last year’s Expo featured 60 business and career vendors and attracted more than 700 students.  
In other business chamber president Anna Marie Dalbey said the chamber collected $700 from hot dog sales at the recent North Cascades Bank Customer Appreciation Day. Chamber volunteers also served 130 hot dogs at the Brewster Police Department’s National Night Out at the Brewster Boys and Girls Club the previous evening.
Brewster librarian Rebecca Zion reminded members of a Friends of the Library meeting at Los Camperos Restaurant at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, and a movie, Against the Wild II, showing at the library at 3 p.m. Friday, August 16.
In a special ceremony Dalbey presented chamber secretary Mike Mauk with an appreciation plaque in recognition of his work on last month’s second annual Cherries Jubilee celebration in Brewster.
