Halloween revelers celebrate from Pateros to Brewster

Posted

PATEROS – Halloween was an all-afternoon and evening affair for youngsters and adults in Pateros and Brewster as Trunk or Treat stops, costume contests, trick-or-treating down Main Street and a Harvest Carnival, Haunted House and hay ride at the Brewster Boys and Girls Club (BBGC) kept everyone entertained until closing time.

The costume contest at the American Legion Park in Brewster drew scores of kids and adults in every kind of outfit with prizes awarded to age groups from toddlers on up. Vehicles parked in front of Columbia Post 97 gave youngsters a good start at filling their candy containers before everyone set off down Main Street where businesses and city services offered a wide variety of treats to the throngs of celebrants.

Many in the Main Street procession were headed for the BBGC where the Carnival, games of skill, haunted house, hay ride, and other activities awaited. Youngsters lined up for a chance to wallop pinatas, bowl, score field goals, knock over blocks, topple targets, and play musical numbers while a fog machine filled the gym with an eerie atmosphere.

Students from Brewster High School staffed the games and manned the haunted house and made sure everyone who stopped in got a full share of prizes and scares.
