Incumbent Conklin, challenger Martinez vie for mayor

BRIDGEPORT – The votes from the August 6 primary are in and while certification remains several days away, it appears that the incumbent Janet Conklin will face challenger Esiquio “Zeke” Martinez in the Nov. 6 general election race for mayor.
Of the three candidates on the August ballot, Martinez received the most votes of the 124 cast with 54 or 43.55 percent. Conklin drew 42 votes for 33.87 percent, and council member Matthew Schuh looks to be eliminated from the contest with 28 votes for 22.58 percent of those cast.
In other results, the Douglas County Emergency Communications measure is narrowly passing with 50.61 percent (3,261) approval and 49.39 percent (3,183) opposed.
