Lots happening at Brewster library in July

Posted

BREWSTER – Librarian Rebecca Zion reminded members of the Brewster Chamber of Commerce during their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 3, that there’s a ton of activities for the whole family happening at the Brewster library this month.

Adult Coloring Night has been extended from 4:30-6:30 p.m. every Tuesday and seems to be catching on with the public.

“It’s been popular,” said Zion. “We have all kinds of coloring pages and a bunch of neat pens that you probably wouldn’t buy yourself. It’s been really fun because the kids lay out the stuff and people come and do it.”

Zion described an event coming up at 3 p.m. next Tuesday, July 16 called Paint the Night.

“It’s teen light art painting,” said Zion. “They send us all these little flashlights and we have these slow-mo apps on our tablets.”

The objective is to create a unique image using light and long exposure photography. The pictures are then printed at the NCRL service center and sent back to the library for the teens.

NCRL S.T.E.M. Outreach Technician Ash Kunz will present The Science of Space at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, in the Firehouse meeting room. The session will explore outer space with comet and planetarium demonstrations and include a tutorial on making galaxy slime.

Kunz will return for two Science, Technology, Engineering and Math sessions with the first at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, and the second at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 30.

STYLE (Songwriting Through Youth Literature Education) from 1-2 p.m., Thursday, July 18 will feature a music variety show inspired by children’s and young adult literature.

A Friends of the Library meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 24.

“Nobody came to the last one, so we’re going to try a different time,” Zion said.

Space Dog from Planet K-9 is coming to the library at 3 p.m. Friday, July 26.

“Benjamin D. Dog pretends to be a space alien whose cardboard spaceship has crash-landed on Earth,” recited Zion. “Can musician and author Eric Ode get this wayward alien back home to Planet K-9?”

Stay tuned…

Ralph Breaks the Internet is another movie playing at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 30.

“This is a really neat movie, because it shows the internet and the way it works, animated,” said Zion. “I learned something from it.”

Brewster EMS (Emergency Medical Services) will be special guests at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 31.

“I don’t know what they’re going to do but hopefully it will be cool,” said Zion. “I just asked them, and they’re coming.”
