Mayor delivers outdoor education report to Pateros School Board

PATEROS – Mayor Carlene Anders presented a slide show and report to the regular monthly meeting of the Pateros School Board concerning last spring’s sixth grade outdoor education campout at Alta Lake State Park. The students spent five days camping at the park where they learned about wildlife, the environment, safety and practical life skills. Anders said she has plans to propose another five-day experience to the board for April 2020.

In other board business, Pateros principal Mike Hull reported:

• Seventh and ninth grade students along with their parents attended Welcome-Up night on September 9

• A good size crowd showed up for the Open House on September 18.

• Greg Goodnight, Mike Hull and Amy Stennes were invited to witness ninth grade students sign their AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) contracts. 

• FFA and 4-H students did well in their competitions at the Okanogan County Fair. 

• 91 students in grades 6-12 are participating in fall sports. 

• Mid-term was Thursday, October 3.

• ASB reps are attending an Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) Leadership camp in Vancouver, WA Oct. 10-13.

• An earthquake drill is planned for 10:18 a.m., on Oct.18.  

• ASB is planning this year’s homecoming week.  Activities culminate during the football game against Sunnyside Christian on Friday, Nov. 1.

After School Support Staff approvals included Bilingual English Language Learners After School Tutor Ana Sanchez; GEAR UP After School Tutor Darlina Fernandez; and ELL After School Tutor Teagan Straub.

Jessica Simmons was approved as the girls’ junior high basketball coach. 

School superintendent Greg Goodnight reported that September enrollment was almost 300 students while the budget was based on 293. 

Goodnight reminded the board that the Oct. 28 regular board meeting will be held in the Methow Community Center at 6 p.m.
