Pateros Apple Pie Jamboree delivers another full show

Posted

PATEROS – The annual Apple Pie Jamboree, the city’s largest community event, seems to get bigger and better every year, and this year’s 71st running of the APJ was no exception last Friday through Sunday, July 20-22.

For county political candidates, the parade was the place to be as office-seekers from county prosecutor and Okanogan County Sheriff to legislative and congressional hopefuls turned out. So did outgoing Okanogan County Sheriff, Frank Rogers, retiring after 16 years in the office.

Four hydro planes including the city-sponsored Miss Pateros were in the lineup along with the North Central Regional Library’s new Bookmobile.

The Pateros Ski Program, Brewster Youth Football, and Brewster Boys and Girls Club both had floats, of sorts, as did the balloon-bedecked Brewster Wrestling float.

Royalty appearances included  the Miss Lake Chelan trio of Queen Gabi Navarro, First Princess Lucy Bordner, and Second Princess Rosa Lopez Barboza, and Miss Omak Stampede, Raelyn Marchand.

Business participants included Shull’s 97 Auto Wrecking/Brewster Car Care, Les Schwab Tires, Isenhart Excavation, and Howard’s on the River.

The three-on-three basketball tournament drew 45 teams to compete in six divisions on a dozen courts. Winners included:
Northwest Warriors, Adult champs
Goofy Goobers, high school male champs
Lady Jelly Beans, high school female champs
Stars and Strips, fifth and sixth grade male champs
Swish, fifth and sixth grade female champs
Bear Slammers, third and fourth grade male champs

While a nearby dunk tank raised funds for Pateros sports, Heather Carrington called out the numbers for the Brewster Boys and Girls Club Bingo game.

The Northwest Jet Sports Association Watercross competition started at 12 noon on Saturday and ran the finals the following day. (See separate story)

The Ray Stanley Memorial Bass Tournament, 5K and 1K Color Run, vendors, food, and fireworks left everybody ready for the work week so they could rest up.
