Pateros Chamber addresses June events, hears IRIS, OCLTRG updates

PATEROS – The city will be happening place from mid-June through the end of the month as a series of community events preview by the Chamber of Commerce at its regular monthly meeting June 7.
The city-wide yard sales that have been running more than two dozen strong in past years will be held from Thursday, June 14 through Sunday, June 17. Those interested in holding a sale can sign up at the City Hall to get the location of their event on the map that will be distributed to potential buyers.
The annual Kid’s Fishing Derby will be held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17, at the Pateros Memorial Park. Trout donated by the Wells Dam Hatchery will be confined in several large stock watering tanks and many will wear special prize tags for youngsters to catch.
The Vintage Fair will be held the following Saturday, June 23, in conjunction with the River Run Bike Rally, salmon bake, beer garden, evening dance with live entertainment and fireworks after dark.
The Pateros Chamber Golf Tournament fundraiser at Alta Lake Golf Resort will tee off Friday, June 29, with a shotgun start, silent auction, raffle, food and fun.
Nancy Warner from the Initiative for rural Innovation and Stewardship (IRIS) was guest speaker at the Chamber meeting. Warner talked about the mission of IRIS top collect area success stories that highlight actions that contribute to the region’s health. She mentioned in particular the city’s most recent campaign to rebuild the Pateros Sign as one story the group would like to have. Warner handed out templates to help guide chamber members as to the content and length of stories IRIS is gathering.
Warner also spoke about the upcoming North Central Washington Community Success Summit that will be held at Pateros High School on Nov. 15.
Pateros Mayor Carlene Anders updated the Chamber about the Rising from the Ashes Recovery Reunion and Celebration that will be held from July 18-22 with activities throughout Okanogan County and Chelan. The event organized by the Okanogan County Long Term Recovery Group is designed to bring together all those who participated in recovery, relief and response efforts over the past four years of wildfire rebuilding.
The Recovery Reunion and Celebration will coincide with a trial run of the Love Washington Disaster Resiliency Event, a pre-trip rehearsal from June 24-August 18. Love Washington is a row, run, and ride ultra-marathon that will traverse 745 river miles over 35 days on and along the Columbia River from the Canadian border to Fort Columbia State Park in the summer of 2019. The pre-trip team will travel the route and address the many logistics details and solve any problems for the main event next year.
