PATEROS – Among the agenda items at the regular monthly meeting of the Pateros Chamber of Commerce last Thursday, Aug. 3, were a couple of items fast-approaching on the calendar of upcoming events.

The Central Building Pop-Up Shop coming up from Friday, Aug. 11, through Sunday, Aug. 13 will feature booths for entrepreneurs with home-based businesses. Hours are: Friday, (hours), Saturday (hours) and Sunday (hours).

The Pateros Hydro Classic 2017 will fire up its engines for racing all day Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12-13 at Pateros Memorial Park. The races were moved up a week this year to accommodate all the racers arriving to compete in the divisional championships.

“This may be the largest hydro race Pateros has ever hosted,” wrote chamber secretary Joni Parks in her meeting summary. “Racers should be showing up as early as Wednesday (August 10).”

Vendors are still needed for the event and those interested can contact Julie Porter at (253) 229-5350. There are some RV spaces at Ives Laning Park. For more information on availability and rates call city hall at 509-923-2571.

Seahawk football on the big screen, with food and drinks available, starts Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Central Building.

The Pateros Library will have a presentation from the PUD for the kids on Aug. 10 at 1 p.m., and a puppet show on the Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. Children are invited down for the library events before school starts the end of the month.

In reply to 30 letters sent to local business requesting donations for the Pateros Sign Project, six responses have been received by the chamber. Members discussed creating a plaque with sign donor names and including that along with a history and photos of the old sign as part of museum display.

The PATEROS sign letters, fish and planks should be ready for installation by Steve Varrelman and BTO Construction in the coming weeks.

The Hawk Fest celebration in Pateros and at Chelan Ridge will be back this year on Sept. 15-16.

“They are basically starting from scratch again,” wrote Parks, “and are asking for help finding vendors (any kind) and anyone interested in providing activities for the kids to do on that Saturday.”

The Pateros Library will feature a reading on raptors, Friday, Sept. 14, and a raptor seminar will be featured at city hall later that evening. Live raptors and activities for youngsters will be held in the park on Saturday. In addition, a morning and afternoon shuttle will transport visitors to the Chelan Ridge raptor research site.

The Sweet River Concert Series will continue each Friday and Saturday night through September.

BBQ at the Central Building will be another weekend attraction featuring BBQ, side dishes and adult beverages.
