Pateros Chamber report card grades past, present projects

PATEROS – The Pateros Chamber of Commerce had a laundry list of both recent and pending events to discuss at its regular monthly meeting last Thursday, July 6, including the recent golf tournament, citywide garage sales, fishing derby and ongoing sign work.

The Pateros Chamber Golf Tournament was the best yet with 18 teams participating, three of those last-minute walk-ons. Players purchased 57 mulligans at $5 per and the silent auction brought in another $705.

The Father’s Day Fishing Derby was another success attracting many participants from outside the area. The Chamber extended special thanks to Ag Supply in Brewster, Dale Parks, Rod Hammonds, Wells Dam Hatchery and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

“The fish were huge, and the kids got them all,” Chamber secretary Joni Parks wrote.

A large crowd turned out for the Vintage Fair, River Run, Salmon barbecue and city-wide yard sale that included more than 30 individual garage sales. The Chamber also recognized Jim Yancey for the fireworks display.

Parks, a member of the Pateros Sign Committee, reported that the first concrete has been poured for the sign base with one or two to come. In a related membership update the Chamber added that anyone who donated to the sign fund automatically receives a Chamber membership through the year, if not already a member. Sign donations can be made at North Cascades Bank, City Hall or by mail to P.O. Box 374, Pateros.

The city has been busy repairing water lines around town, mayor Carlene Anders reported.

“It’s been a real challenge finding water lines from the old city,” said Anders. “We’re learning now that as the infrastructure is starting to get old there are going to be a lot of challenges with kind of a buried town and it’s taking more time and more money.”

Anders also expressed relief over recent passage of the state budget.

“We didn’t have our water appropriations stall out so the first pieces of the water system have gone to bid,” Anders said.

The next Pateros Chamber meeting is at 8:30 a.m., August 3, in the Pateros Fire Hall.
